Description of the institute
P3 was established in 1929, and is an accredited research institute (UNI EN 45001 standard norm) for animal health, with main expertise in epidemiological research and surveillance on infectious and communicable diseases of livestock an international and national reference laboratory. Moreover, it is an international (including OIE) and national reference laboratory for Newcastle Disease, Avian Influenza and other infectious livestock diseases. The leader of the Epidemiological Unit, i.e. dr. S. Marangon, is a well-recognized expert in the field of epidemiology, prevention and control of epizootic poultry diseases such as AI and ND. He was involved in the control of AI outbreaks in Italy in 1999-2003, and has been consulted in this field by the EU and other authorities over the last decade.
